October 17-21, 2018
The Harvesters Gathering came to be as a way for our community, L’sit’kuk to acknowledge our harvesters, to understand what it is to be a Mi’kmaq and our connection to the land, and each other. To take the time to come together and give thanks to each other and Mother Earth. To light the sacred fire and go into a 4 day spiritual cleansing, and send prayers to those in need.
Wednesday, Oct. 17th –
- 3 pm- Sacred fire is lit
- Sunset- Lighting of the teepees
Thursday, Oct. 18th –
- Sunrise Ceremony at Sacred Fire
- 7 am-11 am Community Breakfast at the Health Centre (Free)
- 3 pm- Ride the Tide Canoe run- leaving Bear River bridge- greeted by Bear River Drummers
- 5pm- seafood chowder supper at the Cookhouse
- 6 pm- 9 pm – Youth Dance at the Cultural Centre
Friday, Oct. 19 –
- Day of Games- casting competition, waltes, washer toss
- 7 pm- Card Night at the Health Centre $5.00 entry fee
Saturday, Oct. 20 –
- Mawiomi Powwow Day at the Cultural Centre
- 9:30 am – 11:00- Registration
- 12:00 pm – Grand Entry (see powwow poster for more info)
- 8 pm- 11 pm- Drug and alcohol free adult only dance “The Relatives”
Sunday, Oct. 21 –
- Gathering around cookhouse, story telling
- 3 pm- Sacred fire put out at 3 pm
- 3:30 pm- Harvesters Feast- recognizing our Harvesters, pot luck
- Dusk-Fireworks- hosted by Bear River Fired Department, sponsored by BRFN
