Day to Honour Families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in Nova Scotia

In advance of the National Inquiry’s Nova Scotia Community Hearings, the Mi’kmaw Women Leaders Network invites the public to attend a day of Indigenous ceremony and community support events in Membertou First Nation

Date: Sunday, October 29, 2017

Location: Membertou Trade and Convention Centre, 50 Maillard Street, Membertou, NS, and surrounding areas (as noted or to be announced)

Select key events:

7 am: Sunrise Ceremony & Lighting of Sacred Fire

10 am: Canoe Arrival and Water Ceremony, Kings Road Shore

11 am: Walk from Kings Road to Membertou Trade & Convention Centre

3 pm: Opening Ceremonies & Grand Entry

5 pm: Community Feast

The Mi’kmaw Women Leaders Network is a collaborative group including representatives from the Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association, the Mi’kmaw Legal Support Network, the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre, and other key Mi’kmaw women leaders, as well as provincial government partners from Status of Women, Aboriginal Affairs, and Justice.
