SUMMARY:Story & Activity Time with Mi'kmaw author Theresa Meuse
DESCRIPTION:Craft\, activity time\, and give-away ceremony! For ages 5-12. \nIn 1986 Theresa left Bear River First nation to attend Dalhousie University\, graduating in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts. Over the years\, she has been employed with Mi’kmaq organizations in a wide range of programs. She was also an Aboriginal Educator and Advisor for many years and is presently a Mi’kmaq Aboriginal Student Support Worker in three Halifax schools. Along with her book L’nu’k\, she is the author of the children’s story book entitled\, The Sharing Circle. Her third children’s book\, “The Gathering”\, will be out this Fall. Theresa is a wife\, mother of three and grandmother of four.

DESCRIPTION:This will be a paint night of Mi’kmaq reflections that will locus on Mi’kmaq History Month poster through a piece of Alan Syliboy art. Our elder along with the artist will give us guidance on the theme and how to put our thoughts on canvas. An evening of creativity and laughter and reflection as you create a one-of-a-kind piece of art while enjoying fellowship with other Mi’kmaq neighbors and share stories and laughter.

DESCRIPTION:L’sit’kuk Harvesters Gathering \nBear River First Nation\, Nova Scotia \nOctober 17-21\, 2018 \n  \nThe Harvesters Gathering came to be as a way for our community\, L’sit’kuk to acknowledge our harvesters\, to understand what it is to be a Mi’kmaq and our connection to the land\, and each other. To take the time to come together and give thanks to each other and Mother Earth. To light the sacred fire and go into a 4 day spiritual cleansing\, and send prayers to those in need. \nWednesday\, Oct. 17th – \n\n3 pm- Sacred fire is lit\nSunset- Lighting of the teepees\n\nThursday\, Oct. 18th – \n\nSunrise Ceremony at Sacred Fire\n7 am-11 am Community Breakfast at the Health Centre (Free)\n3 pm- Ride the Tide Canoe run- leaving Bear River bridge- greeted by Bear River Drummers\n 5pm- seafood chowder supper at the Cookhouse\n6 pm- 9 pm – Youth Dance at the Cultural Centre\n\nFriday\, Oct. 19 – \n\nDay of Games- casting competition\, waltes\, washer toss\n7 pm- Card Night at the Health Centre $5.00 entry fee\n\nSaturday\, Oct. 20 – \n\nMawiomi Powwow Day at the Cultural Centre\n9:30 am – 11:00- Registration\n12:00 pm – Grand Entry (see powwow poster for more info)\n8 pm- 11 pm- Drug and alcohol free adult only dance “The Relatives”\n\nSunday\, Oct. 21 –  \n\nGathering around cookhouse\, story telling\n3 pm- Sacred fire put out at 3 pm\n3:30 pm- Harvesters Feast- recognizing our Harvesters\, pot luck\nDusk-Fireworks- hosted by Bear River Fired Department\, sponsored by BRFN
